I found one!

Once in a while my local Blockbuster gets a batch of old VHS tapes in. I check every few weeks. When I checked the other day and asked, "Have you gotten any more VHS tapes in for sale?" the ladied repied with a definite edge in her voice, "Yeah, you could say so. 5,041 of them!" as if she had personally been the one who made shelf space for them and unpacked all the boxes. They have Hollywood Video store labels on them. It took me three trips to the store to look at them all.

AND ON THE FINAL TRIP, THERE ON A BOTTOM SHELF, COMPLETE WITH ORIGINAL BOX WAS "The Killer Elite" (1975) in its PG version, copyrighted 1984 by CBS/FOX.

Unbelievable, Number 1 on my wish list, sitting right there before my eyes!

So, they're out there folks. You just have to keep your eyes peeled.

By the way, in the party scene, this being the PG release, the incredibly beautiful girl sitting with Robert Duval has her dress arranged properly in the close-ups. But in the opening shot of the party, the whole-room view, her breasts are exposed and visible. Oops, the re-editors slipped up. I should say, one is visible and the other is blocked by her knee.

if this film is available in an uncut version or two, i would want the one with the gratuitous nudity that's been cut out of the "pg" release. :-)
you know that with peckinpah what was cut was undoubtably "gratuitous." the clamor here on this board (in another thread) is for more of his trademark violence.
give me the nudity. nothing like a little gratuitous 70s nudity. (l.o.l.) when cinema was just emerging from the institutional shadow of the hays code, and was feeling it's oats (so to speak).
that party scene is obviously badly edited, especially vis-a-vis the ladies' various states of (un)dress.
otherwise, this is a fun, action-packed film, with something for those of an intellectual frame of mind, too.

Well it sounds like the version that is being shown on Encore.

What's a "VHS"?

What I had in mind was boxing the compass.

What's "Encore?"

Why would you want a VHS tape? No offense. Just harder to watch (rewind, fast forward, etc.) as well as fuzzier picture.

reply

It wasn't letterboxed in VHS.
