What happened to the HUGE meat hook the shark had in its mouth with part of the pier attached to it?

Guess it either fell out of his mouth or he swallowed it along with his wife's Sunday roast..

They popped up if I recall correctly?? he kept freeing himself I suppose?? Honestly, I don't think I've ever seen anyone put this much thought into questioning certain scenes in this movie that normally someone wouldn't even bat an eyelash at, but cool..
