Memories of seeing JAWS in 1975

1) I saw it in a theater in Rockford, Illinois.

2) I was 10 and my sister (one year younger) was sitting on my left. She let out a tremendous scream during the chumming scene.

3) I was really disturbed by the Kintner boy death. He and I were about the same age and size, so I related to him.

4) The shot of the shark gliding up under the estuary victim terrified me. To this day I still think it’s the most blood-freezing moment in the movie.

5) There was never a moment in the movie where the shark didn’t seem real to me.

6) The entire audience cheered when the shark died.

7) My life is divided in two parts: Before JAWS and After JAWS. I walked out of that theater a changed person. To this day I still don’t feel comfortable in certain bodies of water.

The odds of getting eaten by a shark are very small.
Even less if you don't get in the water.
The odds of getting hit by lightning are infinitesimal.
Even less if you don't play golf in the rain.

JAWS is definitely one of the 5 most influential movies ever made. I pulled that one out of my a**s but it sounds true.

That didnt stop me from being shit scared when i was 10 (1981).
I went to bed after seeing it and had visions of the shark bursting in through the curtained window from the darkness outside. somehow. lol

I remember thinking the floor would turn into water if I got out of bed. LOL. I had to go to the bathroom so I took a chance. If I would of had any sense I would have remembered that they killed the shark in the movie. No need to be scared. :)

My dad took my heavily pregnant mom in late '75 and she would have us believe it's the reason my sister was born early.

I wish I could go back in time to June 1975 and experience it. But seeing it on the big screen in 2015 was pretty amazing, too.
