Burt Reynolds was so much cooler without that cheesy mustache.
Seriously. He was a badass in Deliverance, Longest Yard, Hustle, and probably every other film before his started wearing the mustache. Once he started (Smoky & The Bandit comes to mind), he became a buffoon and a punchline.
Did no one ever tell him the stache looked ridiculous? His only decent role with the mustache was "Boogie Nights", and he also had a goatee in that one (less cheesy).
He even looked better in Striptease without his stache, even though it was a goofy role.
I do believe it may have killed his career for decades.
