Sharon Tate As Star

Hi,

I have heard that Sharon Tate was perhaps to star in this movie before her murder in 1969. Although I see it wasn`t made for 6 more years. Does anyone have any more information on this..

Interesting. Haven't heard that one. But according to different rumours, the following actresses were considered for the part: Charlotte Rampling, Jacqueline Bisset, Sydney Rome and Carole Laure. According to another (equally unconfirmed) rumour, Ken Russell was offered to direct the film.

bridget bardot would have been good. but clery was perfect. who really needed to be recast was stephen he looked like such an old geezer and dressed exactly like pee wee herman with the grey suit and the red bowtie.

I agree on Stpehen. I think he could have been much larger, to mirror the power he held over O. Also he looks far too like Noel Edwards for my liking. Not that Jaeckin could have foreseen this similarity...!

I thought Jim Morrison would have been good

By 1975 "Brigitte" Bardot would have been too old to play this part. Not to mention the fact that she would NEVER have consented to play such a role. And as the other mentioned Jaqueline Bisset wouldn't have touched it either, nor would Sharon Tate. Basically no serious actress who already had an established name would have done a film like this. I mean, could you imagine Barbra Streisand as "O?"

Re TJ Mulholand:
The thought of Charlotte Rampling as 'O', directed by Ken Russel sticking closely to the book is awesome!

I loved Charlotte Rampling in the night porter but can not see her as the ethereal 'O'. Corinne was perfect. Ken Russell directing! Nup. He would've made it too degrading and non consensual slavery I think. I liked his work but not for this type of film which although some may view as violence of some sort, if you're unto that type of thing isn't violent at all, it's consensual sexual pleasure by all parties concerned. Not slavery.

I don't know. When I first saw Charlotte Rampling's name in this thread, the first thing I thought of was The Night Porter, and Story of O could be the kind of offbeat story that she would gravitate toward. (I can't explain why she agreed to be in Orca, but that's for another thread.)

Rampling as O? I could see it because of the unformed, enigmatic character she played in Night Porter. I'm thinking of how she gravitated toward Dirk Bogarde's character despite the very different postwar situation they both found each other in following their initial liaison in the concentration camp.

I agree with no on Russell, but my worry is that he'd turn it into a garish spectacle a la Tommy and miss the nuances. It would be almost as bad as--oh, say--Adrian Lyne directing Nine-and-a-Half Weeks . . .

Anulka Dziubinska was also desired but she turned it down at the behest of her agent.

That would have been fantastic. Yikes.
