It is interesting that the main gambler/villain has the name Chick Gandil.

Chick Gandil was the name of the ringleader of the Chicago White Sox who threw the 1919 World Series and were forever dubbed The Black Sox.

Gandil was the first baseman on the Sox and it was he who initially made contact with the gamblers and set the whole deal in motion.

That occurred to me this time around seeing Hard Times myself,...had to be a tip of the cap (there is a Chicago connection - the ringer in the last fight comes from Chicago)

Good call....maybe we now know what Gandil did after being banned from baseball?

Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?

The Gandil timeframe would have been about right.📆
