...somewhere in the ballpark of $70,000 - $85,000 today, assuming the film is set between 1930 - 1939. Talk about in-betweens!

Yes, but he gives one of the two stacks($5000) to Speed and Poe for "the in-betweens".

I was thinking the same thing while watching the movie recently. I do believe though, that the dollar was about 25x the value as today. But not sure. Hellavalot of dough though!
