What if Reboot?

I am a huge fan of Walter Hill and think most of his work is underrated becuse it was before its time. Thats why I support Rebooting most of his early work (see my post on streets of fire).

This one seems easy too, no special effects needed. So budget goes a long way. Imagine using indy darlings for the main roles.

Tom Hardy as Channey (I know it seems obvious)
Mathew Lilard as Speed.

It is one of Hill's movies that actually garnered critical aclaim. But I think a reboot would draw attention back the original and Hill's amazing work as well asCoburn and Bronson.

Can't imagine a reboot costing more than 40 million to shoot.

Sorry but you are a total k n o b. Tomas hardy is a dickhead and no where near the talent Bronson was, he is just a gayboy british tosser. Remaking this is criminal and only onr person in the world now could remake this. Stallone, yes that is right stallone. He is the right man for the job, Aged and a real man. Thomas hardy, dont make me sick. Speed .. james woods. If your gonna remake it, atleast give it some talent and justice.

I have no use for remakes ( or reboots ), but your post makes you sound like a ' Class A Jerk '.

First, there is a difference between a "reboot" and a "remake".

A "reboot" refers to starting a new series. The Nolan batmansare a perfect example. There had been a 4 movie batman series before but when Nolan did his movies he ignored them and started completely new. Same goes for the new Star Trek. It is not a continuation of the previous movies and does not rehash the story of any of the previous movies. That's a "reboot".

Making an old movie again with roughly the same storyline, which is what you propose, is a "remake".

That said, why should anybody remake it? It is a good movie. If you want to remake something, you should bring something new to it. Something that makes it different from the original. Not just new actors but an entirely new twist on the storyline or a correction of some big mistake made in the original movie.

When the "Seven samurai" was remade as "Magnificent seven", the setting was changed from Japan to the wild west, two characters were merged and a part of the story which would have made no sense outside of Japanese culture was removed. Those changes made it more accessible to the western audience.
The book "Rain Fall", an international bestseller, was filmed a couple years ago. The director and writer of the screenplay was a complete moron and screwed it up so badly that the finished product ranks as one of the worst movies of all time while the books are still bestsellers and the 8th part of the series is to be released in a couple of months. It is a prime example of a movie that should be remade to correct a big mistake, the script and the direction.

But remaking a movie that was great just to have new and currently popular actors play the parts is pointless and an insult to the original and to the audience.

So to summarize, you are wrong in every single possible point of your post. And btw. Tom Hardy is the most overrated actor we currently have on top of being completely wrong for the part. Chaney is supposed to be unimposing. A quiet man you would pass without taking notice. Part of the story is the everybody he meets greatly underestimates him. And you want to cast Tom Hardy, mister 200 pounds of muscle? Have you seen him in warrior? He could play the last fighter Chaney has to fight, but not Chaney himself.

reply

Eh, the new batmans was crap to first two..............

reply

That's fine playing a fighter, but he certainly is not mr muscle, he has flabby boobs. Bronson was built athletically, like what stallone is now onny stallone is slightly bigger.

reply

I'm not into "remakes", but if one was done, the actor would have to be late 50's/early 60's.....

reply

Yeah even though Stallone nearing 70 he still best choice and james woods as speed. A tidy lil gem

reply

A reboot wouldn´t make justice to this beautiful movie.

reply

Wow...Matthew Lillard as Speed!

Jesus...some people have no idea.

dubtownsbest...please stay away from the internet.

reply

Eddie Murphy as Speed
Mark Wahlberg as Chaney

It wasnt me, it was the other three. Hang them!

Fast talking double dealer.
Why not?

Liam Neeson as Cheney - he's kinda become the Charles Bronson of his era anyway.

William Devane as Speed.

Nathan Lane as Poe.

The biggest question: who is a modern, intimidating bad-ass that could play Jim Henry as well as Robert Tessier did?

Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?

How about Zach McGowan?
