I am assuming she had some kind of income to pay bills and buy food. ect.

The DVD commentary says the husband squandered much of the money but they must have had some left over to pay the gardener and the kid handyman. They bought groceries & had them delivered. They must have spent plenty on cat food (even feeding the raccoons). Little Edie has what looks like an expensive broach on her various "hoods" to cover her hair.

Big Edie received $150.00 a month alimoney from her husband's estate. She never worked so I doubt there was any social security. Both Big and Little Edie got $5000.00 a piece to appear in the documentary. The big check she is writing is to the gardner and it's for like $10.00.

Point of information- you do not have to have worked to draw SS. You can draw it based off your ex-spouse or deceased spouse work history.
