Major GOOF spotted. Anachronistic British flag shown

Major GOOF spotted.

Twice in the movie I spotted the wrong British flag being depicted.

For one thing, there was no British flag around the historical time frame of the movie, circa, late 1600s.

The flag shown in error twice is the UNION JACK, which appeared after the 1701 Act of Union which joined England and Scotland by one parliament - in London. The English flag was/is still a white background with a red cross, symbolizing Christianity and the blood of Christ. The Scottish flag was/still is a blue background with a white X, from the four corners. These two flags were joined into one flag to become the UNION JACK.

The flag you should have seen would have been the English flag.

Today in Great Britain it is common for nationalistic English people to continue to display the old English flag more out of regional ethnic pride, that of England. Same goes for the folks north in Scotland who often privately display the old Scottish flag. Sometimes you might see the old English flag with a small Union Jack in the upper left corner for those Brits who want to show both national and regional pride.

Well done you.
This major goof really ruined my enjoyment of the film.

Now, if only there was a web page listing this sort of thing.
Oh wait...there is:

The goof´s a goof, but the time frame for the movie was not late 1600s as stated in the OP, but probably in 1625-26 (it is established that the year D´Artagnan set out to ride to Paris was 1625 on the first page and apparently there is no notable skipping forward in timeline throughout the novel).
