I love the part when the mother is just too tired to spank her son. It was just so like the weight of the world was on her shoulders and she just needed some rest.

sad, but heart felt, touching scene
(woman couldnt act though)

"Cooley High" is a CLASSIC! It's one of my all time favorite movies. Mixed with both comedy and drama. I own a DVD copy of the film. This movie, along with "Claudine" and "Sparkle", are three of my favorites.

Haha! Yeah, there are quite a few "non-actors" in the film. One comes to mind: the scene where preach and cochise are about to be released from the police station. The white detective (Frank Beetson) comes in and says preach and cochise can go, but almost cracks a smile (in a dramatic moment) telling stone and robert "they're going to be booked!"

Still a classic though, faults and all.

I'm with you- it's a gift. Sort of reminds me of the original Friday movie with some guys hanging in the neighborhood.
