This is by the far the scariest movie of my lifetime. I was 6 in 1975 and I guarantee you this movie caused me a lifetime of a fear of bugs. Whoever made this movie, I hope you know some place you have scared a man for life.
I was around that age when I saw this movie too and it also scared the hell outta me. I think I had nightmares for a while afterwards and remember always checking my sheets for fire roaches before getting into bed. The horror movies of this time were really horror movies and not just blood and gore like the so-called "horror" flicks being pumped out today.

Heck yeah----I remember seeing this on my 8th birthday,I believe (on TV,actually)and those damn bugs scared the hell out of me,too (that's probably why I slept in my mother's bed that same night!) Funny thing was, I was the type of kid who was always running around catching grasshoppers, bringing in ants in jars, and chasing down butterflies all the time (go figure) but, yet, paradoxically, films about bugs always creeped me the hell out.
The film's showing right now on the MOVIES channel as part of their "Friday the 13th" horror movie 'fest. That means it might pop up again during the weekend, so check it out. One thing about the '70's----they knew how to make some pretty creepy-as-hell nature-turns-against-man films, which were very popular back then---I grew up watching a bunch of them, it seems, just about every Saturday, when you could see a bunch of horror films on the local channels ( just before everybody and their mama had cable, that is.)
Thanks Activista. I'll check it out. Interestingly though is that of late I've been trying to remember the names of, and locate, all those 70's horror shows that scared me half to death.
There was one about this warped family that terrorized and beheaded poor unsuspecting motorists who got lost and happened to venture into their neck of the woods. There was the mother and her two late-teen/early twenty-something sons I think. I can't remember the name of that show to save my life.
Then there is another about a little boy--about 5 or 6 I guess--who was flying somewhere (can't remember) with his dad over South America when the plane crashes into the jungle and he and his father got separated. The movie was basically about how he had to fend for himself until finally he and his father were reunited at the end.
Lastly, don't know if you've seen "Godsend"; Donald Pleasance's daughter starred in it as this woman who gives birth to babies and then befriends young parents only to suddenly disappear, leaving her newborn baby with the unsuspecting parents. As the baby grows, he/she kills the young parents' kids until there are no more, leaving the parents no choice but to focus solely on him/her. It's not a horror but more of a suspense. But for some reason that movie always stuck with me.

did this come on TV in the late 70's, before cable? I remember staying at a friend's house in Philly, and I think this came on, and I couldn't finish my dinner.
If you like late 70's tv horror(this is from 1979), then I strongly recommend this. It used to be on Youtube, but make sure you watch the 4-hr version. It was originally a 2-parter on CBS back then. Try not to watch any short clips, so nothing gets spoiled.
not sure, but check out the Salem's Lot page on here; those guys will know. Last time SL was on tv was on the sci-fi network about 10 years ago. It's one of those films that hit home when I first saw it, as I didn't expect child vampires back then.
