I recall as a pre-teen an episode where Starsky talks about his car

He was looking at the engine bay of a Torino which exterior-wise appears as his but when looking under the hood he says to the effect "this is not my car my car has a 351 windsor? something something 4barrel"

Anyone recall this episode? Watching the shows on/off on El Rey this past few weeks and have not come across this episode.

Gosh that's a difficult one. starsky quite often looked in his car bonnet, usually to see if a bomb was planted.

I thought it maybe was the episode with the S&H imposters,(Lauren Tewes is in it) expecting him to utter the line but no never happened.

Looked through the episode list and do not see a similar plot where the scene would be used.

May have been confounding the scene in the pilot with the other Torino. Where he is looking through the bullet holed windshield. As that fits the scene I recall, He is looking into the other Torino. But not the dialgoue.

Is there any episode where Starsky talks about his engine?

There was an episode where he went undercover as a rich guy, maybe a drug dealer and drove a Ferrari. At the end, Hutch asks Starsky if he can go back to regular life after living so high.

Starsky replies, "nothing handles like a Gran Torino." It was a great inside joke, because PMG hated that car and the Gran Torino is a terrible handler.

I am pretty confident that Starsky never uttered that line about his engine. He did refer to his engine when he was describing his car in "Targets without a badge" to the desk Sargent when "Soldier" stole his engine but he never said what size it was though.

The show used several Torinos. One had front bucket seats for 2 people, another one had a front bench seat when they seated 3 actors there. Watch the episodes to see where they used which. At least one "junkyard Torino" was acquired when the script called for it to be damaged. I believe I have a photo of this car. And yes, that was a car that caught your attention.
