favourite Major moment

the Major has always been my favourite character in FT and there are so many good scenes with him.

For me:
The Kipper and the Corpse when he sees Fawlty and Manuel carrying the corpse after seeing them earlier and he says "another one Fawlty?". Like how many people can possibly have died during the night?

And the same episode when he's told he died in his sleep: "well you're off your guard you see"

anyone care to post theirs?

Cambridge man you know. His uncle Bertie and I used to break wind for our college.

Maybe from 'The Builders'... when he's so nonchalant about the fact that the dining room door is missing, tells Basil he's "sure it'll turn up", asks if the newspapers have arrived yet, then helps Manuel to the kitchen via the outside entrance.

One of my all-time favs.

Wait a minute... who am I here?

reply

Yeah good one Doom

For some reason the bit where Bernard Cribbins gets knocked out and then Fawlty goes "bit of cheese" and the Major goes "yes please" always has me in stitches. Even as I'm typing it I'm laughing!

When the moose head fell on Manuel and Basil, completely obscuring Manuel, and Manuel moaned "ohh, hhe(Basil) hhit me on the hhead!" and the major retorts while wagging his finger at the moose head: "no, YOU hit HIM(Basil), you naughty moose!"

reply

Yes, and before that, when he asked Basil if it was Japanese, LOL, a Japanese moose. And when Basil said "Canadian, I think" the Major says "I didn't think Canadians were as clever as that". And I'm Canadian, LOL.

reply

When basil is trying to convince him that he gave him the money from the horse race

Basil "Please please think please"

Major "What were we talking about again"

It's so painful watching basil trying to make him remember

Major: She's a fine woman, Mrs. Fawlty.

Basil: No I wouldn't say that Major.

Major: No, nor would I.

"The cold never bothered me anyway."

Major enters reading "Daily Telegraph" : "Strikes, strikes, strikes. Why do we bother, Fawlty"

Fawlty: "I didn't know you did, Major".

reply

The bit where Basil knees/grabs the Major in the goolies to shut him up about the rat.

Mr. Hamilton: What I'm suggesting is that this place is the... the crummiest, shoddiest, worst-run hotel in the whole of Western Europe.

The Major: No! No, I won't have that! There's a place in Eastbourne.

I love his momentary loyalty to Basil

reply
