The series continued without Blake ?

How is possible that "Baretta" continued even when Robert Blake left it.
Who was the star after he left ?
And why the series continued being called "Baretta" if Robert Blake left and he was Tony Baretta...weird weird weird.
I was so young and didn't remember the show continued without Robert Blake.

What?

Robert Blake worked only in 1975 and 1976 seasons.
However the show continued until 1978.
I wonder how could be possible to hold "Baretta" without Tony Baretta's character.

The posters here may have it backwards. In the 1973-74 season there was a series called "Toma," about a real-life detective who was a master of disguise. The show did OK in the ratings and was renewed for another season, but the star, Tony Musante, didn't want to do the weekly series grind any more and proposed to cut the show down to a series of TV-movies. ABC didn't bite. They shut the show down for half a season while considering whether Robert Blake should continue in the role. Producer Stephen J. Cannell kept tweaking the format and finally decided to create a whole new series. After a rough first season, the show took off in its second and third years. Blake became a major star and a major pain in the neck for Universal Television executives by his demands for creative control and lots of money. But he stuck with the show. Finally he threatened to quit after the 1977-78 season. He didn't have to: a new time slot caused the bottom to drop out of the ratings. But yes, it was Blake all the way.

I'd forgotten all about that. I actually remember Toma; I was about 12-13, desperately wanting to be a cop in NYC (hey, if you're all Irish and a little Italian, it's that, the priesthood, or being a fireman). Pretty good show.

Fred the cockatoo was the real star anyway.

Great minds run in the same channel, and fools think alike.

Your getting both Baretta and Robert Blake mixed up with another tv series which first started out as Toma and it's star at the time was Tony Musante.Baretta was always with Robert Blake until it went off the air.
