The "I just want you to be yourself" scene
Happens when Mabel returns home, she's acting very calm, trying to "not get too excited". After she consoles her father, Nick takes her upstairs and tells her to just be herself and to give him a crazy "ba-ba" noise.
Why did Nick do this? It seems like he didn't like the new, calm, Mabel. Did he want her to be crazy Mabel or was there some other Mabel he knew, sort of crazy but sort of something else (loving perhaps), that he was not seeing?
It seemed like he wanted her to be crazy Mabel but I thought that was the last thing he would have wanted.
