shareOther than they involved high rise disasters, I don't consider them similar. No more than Skyscraper with Dwayne Johnson is similar to 9/11.
shareThis might just be a rumor, but I think after 9/11 hit, The Towering Inferno was pulled from distribution on TV and cable for a few years.
The connection was the point that in fiction(Towering Inferno) and fact (9/11) people were trapped at the top of a skyscraper with no escape to the street below --only a choice between jumping to their deaths or burning to death. And only the fictional Towering Inferno saved those people from that fate.
It would be interesting for someone to research whether or not The Towering Inferno was pull for some years but...maybe not.
