Wonder if.... the lamp atop fred astaire

I saw this film again for perhaps the 5 time, I noticed that fred astaire has a lamp post fall on him in the water scene that looks a lot like the "singing in the rain" lamp. What do you think? Could this have been a little joke in the film?

No.

Only if it had been Gene Kelly instead of Astaire, and even then -- no.

Fred Astaire, at 75, had to do some fairly grueling acting at the end of the film, with explosions overhead and such. Obviously the lamppost didn't really fall on him, but he did have to get into a bunch of water and be pinned under it.
