Trolling again Corky? There is no 40th Anniversary Bluray and never had been. The so-called footage you talk of doesn't exist either. Who in their right mind would believe your absurd and implausible response. Yes they jumped nearly 1800 feet into an airbag and that's how they got down... and lived! Get real.
Just FYI I have three revised drafts of the screenplay, one of which subtly indicates that the survivors climbed down the north stairwell after the fire was extinguished, which was originally not accessible due to smoke. It was the south stairwell that was blown away and fire damaged. Although not shown in the finished film, it does seem likely that an exit via the other stairwell was achieved but not shown for either time constraints or pacing reasons.

shareEventhough they don't actually show how the Promenade Room (Floor 135) survivors get down, it is possible to put a theory together. The North Stairwell was only broken in between Floor 81 and Floor 87 whilst the South Stairwell was only broken in between Floor 103 and Floor 104. This suggests crucially that the stairwells were not broken in the same place.
This also suggests that once the Glass Tower fire was out, the survivors would walk down one stairwell as far as possible and walk across the floor, were the break is, to the other stairwell to continue down to the Ground Floor. An example of such a route would be South Stairwell from Floor 135 down to Floor 104. Across Floor 104 and then down North Stairwell to Floor 87. Across Floor 87 and finally down South Stairwell to the Ground Floor.
An alternative route could be down North Stairwell to Floor 87 and down South Stairwell to Floor 81. Across Floor 81 and finally down North Stairwell to the Ground Floor. More adventurous could be down North Stairwell from Floor 135 to Floor 103. Across Floor 103 and finally down South Stairwell to the Ground Floor.
Thanks Craig for your theories, any of which may have worked but remember that they could not have walked in the south stairwell from 135 to 104 where the two firemen were because there was a later explosion on 131 which thwarts Roger's escape rate rendering this route possible. It's also a possibility that there were even more south stairwell explosions that weren't shown. In any case that avenue of escape would have been virtually impossible. The North stairwell totally intact would have been the only option.
One scene that I love but contains a blooper is the down the ropes scene when the firemen rapel from 77 down to 65 and use the elevator to exit. Just prior to their descent a firemen falls to his death from above in a fiery ball of flame and should land on top of the elevator at 65. Shouldn't the body be there when they reach the landing point? It was one shaft not two but nevertheless it is not resolved-- perhaps the Producers thought nobody would notice. Ha.
After the fire was out it would have been a simple matter for the firemen to guide them down the intact parts of the building.
