UK Blu Ray...don't bother with it.

Hi,

Just wanting to let people know that the UK Blu Ray is not worth getting. Bought it on release last week and very disappointed with it. The picture doesn't look any better than the DVD release and the UK Blu Ray has ZERO extras. That's right.........ZERO. There is no commentary, no isolated soundtrack and no trailers. It's just basically the DVD re-packaged into a Blu Ray. I'm mightily pissed off we didn't get the same Blu Ray that was released in the USA. In this day and age it is inexcusable.

Interesting... usually you guys get the BETTER stuff!

Well, Blu-ray.com rate the UK Second Sight release as 4/5 for video quality, and having bought it, I agree. It is far superior to any previous DVD release. Sure it is bare bones on the extras front, but the US limited edition is sold out so this is the only option for region B users.

Glad I got it. I refuse to by the terrible transfers from Twilight Time plus the high dollars they want for these older films. Second Sight has done a great job with this transfer. I don't buy blu rays for special features. I buy it for the movie, special features are an extra. Plus special features take up bit space when the movie can use the space. And on this title, it shows.

I can't speak for the rest of their catalog, but Twilight Time's version of Thunderbolt and Lightfoot is a really good hi-def bluray. It looks great on my big screen TV.

I'm watching the UK Blu right now and it looks great to me (I watch LOADS of vintage movies on DVD and Blu) but the Twilight Time is superior for extras, obviously. Both both editions are from the same MGM master.

In the end, it's a great 70s movies presented in excellent quality on both Blu rays. The DVD is non-anamorphic, btw. Here's a comparison of the old DVD and the Blu ray:
