Grindhouse Film Festival - Portland, Oregon

I saw it there last night! I think that was the longest training montage I have ever seen. Wasn't it half the film? It was a nice way to close out this years Grindhouse Festival, but I'd have to disagree with those who say it's well made or tightly edited. I found myself wishing they stop holding some of those shots so damn long. The usage of the long shots was so heavy-handed that the effect was lost on me. Many times throughout this film the shot just keeps dragging on when someone is shot or a ECU or hardcore porn is used. Maybe they were thinking this would bring us into the experience of not being able to escape or spending lots of time in sexual slavery, i get that, but it starts to feel like they were just trying to stretch this out to hit some magical total running time, not to add to the film or our experience watching it. I felt the film was clumsily edited and contained at least a few noticable continuity errors.

I'm not expecting perfection from a grindhouse film... I'm expecting a good time and a good time was had by all. I don't have a problem with this film. It is what it is and it was really fun to see it with other people who were there to laugh, cringe and cheer. I just don't think it is a good film in any way. It is a horrible and amusing film and I'm glad it was way too long and took itself seriously. Without that we wouldn't have the record setting slow mo!
