Before films turned into noisy computer generated special effects, movie makers relied more on style and atmosphere to tell a story. Films like Thriller are immeasurably better than the garbage Hollywood is responsible for today. The quiet, subdued tone of Thriller is used to build suspense. Personally I find it impossible to look at Hollywood action films without getting a headache from all that noise and those CGI effects being hurled at the audience, as if we were idiots that need everything spelled out for us.

Same old, same old...

I love how economic the sound is in these older flics.

I love the sound in 70's and low budget flicks. I don't know, but just how it sounds louder and less clear. Weird, I know.
I think the lack of sound and script helps you enter Frigga's POV, since she is completely silent.

I think the fact that there is hardly any dialogue or soundtrack is one of the films strong points - it gave it more believability. Plus, 70s soundtracks do tend to age movies a lot.
