Works of G. M. Fraser you MUST read!

Fans of "3 & 4 Musketeers" must read the Flashman novels of G. M. Fraser. His comic style is superb; the swashbuckling wonderful. The film version with Malcom Mc Dowell was pretty good, but not as much fun as the books. If you are a pirate fan, Fraser also wrote a comic novel called "The Pyrates" that is one of the funniest mock-heroic novels ever written. These books cannot be recommended highly enough if you love adventure stories.

I heartily agree; absolutely the best comic/action novels ever written. Fraser's style is grand and his observations about British history are right on, but appropriate to the era he's writing on. I've read the entire series twice and hopefully will live long enough to read them again. I've converted three people to fans of Fraser, and hopefully some of the readers here will enjoy them also.

If you want a great read then try George Macdonald Frasers collection of short stories "The McCauslin Trilogy" which are a mix of autobiography with a dash of comedic fiction that revolves around Frasers time as a seconed liutenant in a highland regiment (52nd I think)in post war N Africa...its a cracking read. Another top book by Macdonald Fraser is "Quartered Safe Out Here" which are his recollection of his experiences fighting in Burma against the Nips, I believe it gives good insight into what makes the man tick and is a link to the rest of his British Empire based novels.
