Great film that could have been much much better...

I remember watching this as a kid and loving it, I recently watched it again and I was really disappointed. Sure it's still a great film by any standard, but given the star studded cast and Dumas' legendary story this movie had the potential to be one of the best films of all time. I solely blame director Richard Lester for the rather "disorganized" way the movie has been put together. still a great movie 7/10 but could have been much much more! What do you all think?

I think it's fine like it is and to place today's standards of film making to it is a waste of time.

I don't what you're talking about. It still holds up.

It's great as it is. An international production which means thankfully it doesn't have that shitty Hollywood glamourous look that every other Musketeers film has had before and since. It's got a more European look about it which of course it should because of the setting.

Most of the locations here look a bit grungy and more realistic. You can almost smell the surroundings of the poverty stricken areas. Some great comedy, and sword fights that while humourous look more natural and not overtly choreographed.

Still the best Musketeers film.

Great cast, great visuals, great sword fights, but would have been better if Lester had dialed the silliness down from 11. He tried to direct it like it was one of his Beatles movies.
