The King's voice

I've seen this film a million and one times, and it's on again at the mo' on ITV3. Is it just me, or does the voice of the King always sounds dubbed, like it's not the actor on screen actually speaking the words.

reply

It was dubbed. Richard Briers provides the voice.

It sounds dreadful - Jean Pierre Cassel spoke very good English and it quite ruined his performance for me. I don't know why on earth they did this as around about this time he appeared in 'Love in a Cold Climate' and 'Murder on the Orient Express' and he sounded perfect - his French accent was adorable, and quite easy to understand. He was a very fine actor, and to do this was an insult.

reply

You are correct, but for a long time I thought it was Ray Brooks, because the actor playing the king actually looked like Ray Brooks too.

'Well I've got two words for you - STFU'

I have just seen this and noticed that Treville(Georges Wilson)was also dubbed. By Michael Hordern.
