quick question

When I was younger I used to watch different three musketeers movies and I cannot remember which Three Musketeers movie was my favorite. One of the scenes close to the beginning of the movie shows people getting taking to the guillotine and then I think we are shown D'artagnan who is about to be killed but is spared. Does anybody know which Three Musketeers movie this is?

reply

Are you sure it was a musketeer film? The guillotine wasn't invented until the French Revolution, some 200 years after the Renaisance.

reply

That sounds more like the Scarlet Pimpernel. There was a version in the early 80's with Anthony Andrews and Jane Seymour. It was released on video from Live Entertainment, as part of a literary collection, which included the Richard Chamberlin Count of Monte Cristo and Man in the Iron Mask. That could be the source of confusion.

reply

"The Three Musketeers" takes place in 1625, not the Renaissance. Yet this, still, is about a century and a half before the guillotine.

reply

'Renaissance' is a vague term which is interpreted in various ways, but most definitions seem to suggest that it went on into the 17th century.

Probably thinking of Carry On Don't Lose Your Head
