The Blu Ray Set is Disappointing
I recently purchased the region free Blu Ray set of both films from Amaazon.
Yes, the digital transfer, and restoration is excellent, both the picture and the sound quality are excellent.
What is disappointing however is the complete lack of special features. I was hoping for interviews, documentaries, and maybe even a commentary on the two films. I know that Richard Lester is old, retired and no longer interviews and whatnot, so I wasn't expecting a commentary track by him, but I was hoping they could have found a movie critic, or maybe a Dumas scholar, could make a commentary track. And I was hoping there might be a 'making of' documentary, which might explain why the film was split into two, and maybe even give a history of the lawsuits that resulted from that controversial decision, and explain how the lawsuit proved to be be influential in later attempts to film multiple movies at once, like Superman I and II, Back to the Future II and III, the two Matrix sequels, and the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies.
Sadly, a truly definitive Blu Ray boxset of these films has yet to be made.
