Either have him escape in the pick up or give leatherface one last kill
Having him just run off screen was an odd choice

I was wondering why he didn't just drive off when he got the girl into the truck with him, especially seeing as how the chainsaw wasn't effective against the metal door. It wouldn't have had such a spectacular ending though, so I overlooked it.
