Great Action and Suspense- but Almost a Comedy
This film has a wonderful mix of action, suspense and comedy. I finally watched it uncut on cable (after many viewings on broadcast TV) and I'm blow away by the tone of the film and the cleverness of the dialogue. The tension created by the angry, shouting, cursing pissed-off New Yorkers captures the era so well. This is one of the great 70's New York crime films along with The French Connection, Serpico, Marathon Man and Dog Day Afternoon.
