When did TCM start allowing the F word?

Saw this last night on TCM, and I was surprised that all the "shít" and "fùcking" was not cut out.

Does anyone know when TCM started this?

EDITED QUESTION: When did TCM first air uncut films with words like "shít" and "fúck" in them?

They've been airing movies unedited for language and most content for years. I don't remember when they started the practice but it's been in effect for a while.

reply

They just showed Shaft, and while they let 'mother------' through, they definitely censored something (possibly 'n*gg*r', although that one got through when it came to Pelham).

reply

The majority of films they air are older so you probably haven't noticed but TCM has always aired films unedited.

thankfully.

I was surprised by that, too, as I watched the movie on TCM. I guess I should not have been surprised, but I don't know any other non-premium channel that would air the real words in prime time. I appreciated that they didn't edit the original language - the film sounds more authentic that way.

IFC does not edit language either.

reply

Yeah IFC shows Pulp Fiction, Goodfellas, etc uncut. Lots of F bombs.

reply

I may be wrong but I believe they only cut them if they are used to describe the actual action. So they would allow, "don't F$%& with me" but not "I want to F(&* you all night." Same with the S word.

TMC is not a premium channel but they also do not have commercials. They don't have to worry about sponsors being upset with the content. I was watching the Christopher Lee version of the Wicker Man last month & it had tons of nudity in it. TMC is probably my favorite channel, not because of the nudity & language but because they show classic movies uncut the way they should be seen. Sundance used to show them uncut (with commercials) but they seemed to have changed. I watched Unforgiven on there about a month ago and all the cuss words were edited. I was disappointed.
