credibility problem

Towards the end, the police knew that there were only two possibilities for the location of the hijackers. either they were still on the train or they had gotten off. How could it be that they hadn't taken the precaution of having police on the sidewalk watching the emergency tunnel exits? They had plenty of police available.

Yes, just like any movie, you can pick apart the details if that's what you're into.

I take your comment to mean you agree with my observation but you disapprove of my even making the observation. I don't believe you approval is required.

reply

Take it anyway you like, but it's a fact.

reply

It's not a fact, it's an opinion.

Remember that Garber was very adamant when he told the NYPD that the hijackers couldn't get off the train, they had to be onboard to operate it because of the dead man switch. The police took him at his word.

It wasn't until they were racing along the street, following the runaway train under them, that Garber conceded they might have found a way around it.

There is still a problem. It only takes one person to operate the train so why didn't Garber think that all but one of the hijackers got off the train? Or think of a scenario where they all got off but force one of the passengers to operate the train by threatening them or taking a hostage. If they would have taken one of the young boys hostage they could have convinced the mother to hold down the dead man's switch and operate the train.

reply

It only required one man to operate the Dead Man device, so why wouldn't they anticipate the others getting off?
