Mediocre but Interesting to See Early 1970’s Culture

The supporting characters and production values are right out of a 1970’s Rockford Files episode. I was surprised at the violence because the movie has the look of a television show and you’re just not expecting that level of bloody destruction when all the visuals are TV Land. The cynicism is what you would expect coming out of the Vietnam era. The handsome, hero cop is a criminal himself and taking bribes from organized crime and the whole thing has a tone of “everyone’s corrupt and on the take…” Williams has star power for sure but this story was mediocre. I heard he helped finance the film but I don’t see what interested him enough to put his own money on the line. In several scenes he actually appears pretty disinterested.
