The opening music song?

Who sung that song on the car radio?

reply

Perry Como?

reply

The name of the song is "Christmas Dream" sung by Perry Como, per the opening credits.

Why on earth they chose such a song for this film is beyond me. It did not fit the theme or mood of the film at all.

reply

That's the least of their problems in terms of music. They should not have hired Andrew Lloyd Webster to compose the score. It did not complement the film at all. There were many capable composers at that time who would have made the music more appropriate.

I've just watched the film and found it very enjoyable, but was rather surprised to hear a refrain from 'Evita' repeated over and over!

It was written especially for the movie, and I think it's perfect, the way it is used. It establishes the normal atmosphere that was about to be shattered by the news that Kennedy was assassinated, setting up the series of events that leads Peter to Tauber's suicide, the diary and the plot.

I agree completely with b-rad. The music was ideal for the Christmas setting in Bavaria. I happened to be in Germany in December 1974 after the movie had already been released. After I watched the movie I couldn't get the theme song out of my head any time I went to southern Germany, especially during the winter months or to a Christkindlmarkt. The movie was wonderful, entertaining and one of my favorites.
