Swallowing the bullet... OUCH!

Just watched the film for the first time since it was released (I was 11), and the whole thing with the bullet that killed 002 finally made sense to me.

At the time, I had no clue as to what retrieving a swallowed object entailed, so Bond's lines, "Take me to the nearest pharmacy," and, "You have no idea what it went through to get here," went right over my head.

Watching it now, all I can say is: There's no damn way somebody can swallow something that jagged without tearing up their whole throat and intestines, no matter how much laxative they bought at the pharmacy!

When I was young I also did not know what he was meaning.

But now that I do I highly doubt he bought laxitive, for the very reasons you have said.

He would have went to get something like Ipecac, to make him vomit. (Like what Daniel Craig achieved with with the Salt water in Casino Royal to get out the most of the poison he drank).

But remember he said, "You have no idea what it went through to get here," meaning it passed all the way through him.

It's unsavory either way. But I prefer my Bond immediately sifting through his vomit after ipecac to Bond spending days on laxative, sifting through his poop.

Well, his lips were pressed to that belly dancer's luscious tummy. That would certainly take his mind off anything unpleasant.

but it was low in salt.

You stay classy, San Diego.

I definitely assume he threw it up, which would still be difficult. I mean, being swallowed and thrown up is still an ordeal for the bullet to go through.

Interesting idea that I never though of when watching the film..

I always though that the bullet was recovered by gastroscopy (or esophagogastroduodenoscopy to be more exact).
I still think that would probably be the most reliable way to get the bullet back.
