The Shangri-la Motel in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania

Sadly doesn't exist.

But East Stroydsburg does. It's where I live.

When I saw MAME for the first time at the movie (at the Grand Theater in East Stroudsburg) everybody went crazy when she mentioned our town.

There may not be a Shangri-la Motel, but there is certainly an East Stroudsburg, Pa in the Poconos. It's where East Stroudsburg State College is located.

reply

Indeed. I've lived there all my life. And ESU is a fine college, part of the state's state university system. It's trained many teachers.

Sadly the area has grown a lot in the past two decades. And a lot of the honeymoon resorts have clised.

This remark is not intended to be a factual statement.

reply

Yes, ESU is a good school. Many of my friends graduated from there. Although I'm not from PA, I did work at the now defunct "Beautiful" Mount Airy Lodge and Brookdale-on-the-Lake when Morris Wilkins (father of the heart-shaped tub) was an owner. I'm sure there have been many changes to the Poconos since I've been there. I do hope, however, that it hasn't lost its beauty.
