Accorting to STRIPPERS, SHOWGIRLS, AND SHARKS: A Very Opinionated History of the Broadway Musicals That Did Not Win the Tony Award, when MAME closed on Broadway on January 3, 1970, after 1,508 performances, it had the distinction of being the longest-running musical in Broadway history not to have won the Tony Award for Best Musical.

Perhaps this should be more accurately "to have lost the Tony Award," since Oklahoma! (which predates the Tony Awards) didn't win either.

46 years today.

Will 2016 see a major 50th Anniversary productions of MAME? I somehow doubt it. There have been occasional productions since the 40th in 2006 that received some publicity, but reviews weren't overly-enthusiastic.

BTW, Angela Lansbury and Frankie Michaels are the only major original Broadway cast members left.
