First film to mine 50's nostalgia
"American Graffiti", which came out a year earlier, was set in 1962.

shareWhoever posted on goofs must have this film mixed up with Saturday night fever. The opening of Lords is in front of a HS in East Flatbush that this site refuses to recognize, a DAMN shame because he was a US president. Douche bag site......
share"Grease" opened on Broadway in June 1972. That might be where the whole 50s lookback/nostalgia started.
"Don't call me 'honey', mac."
"Don't call me 'mac'... HONEY!"
Oh wow, I had no idea it was on Broadway first.
shareSha Na Na performed at Woodstock. It seems weird to think of “50s nostalgia” only 10 years later in 1969, but on the other hand music and culture seemed to have moved so far by ‘69 that the whole 1950s schtick seemed very long ago.
I can’t think of any other 1950s themed entertainment prior to Sha Na Na in ‘69, and I sort of can’t tell if they were popular for their nostalgia schtick or whether it was a result of some real musical appeal.
Flatbush seems more like Saturday Night Fever than nostalgia. It’s too gritty and dark for a nostalgia trip.
