The Ending
Biggest Twist Ever
shareI was kind of dissapointed with the ending at first. I've learned to like it now though.
shareI think it was bold to break the 4th wall and point to the viewer. But it did'nt take my breath away like ending El Topo did.

It`s brilliant ending. It`s like this big insane psychedelic spritual trip, and then bang, back to reality you go people.
Greetings traveller.
I agree. I was speechless when I first saw it, it was like being on LSD for two hours and then suddenly you're dropped back into reality and bascially told to go away now. Great trick by a master trickster.

He left a note. He left a simple little note that said "I've gone out the window."
JoDorowsky is a master when it comes to endings, I really didn't see ending of Holy Mountain coming but it was not a cheap twist, it raised one more question when it ended, the question of life and what it is?
The ending of both Santa Sangre and El Topo were great too...
Why so Serious ?
I thought it was an interesting ending because of its implication to Jodorowsky's purpose in life. Here he makes a film that aims to reveal pure enlightenment but ultimately reveals how pointless the search for enlightenment is. In doing so he simultaneously reveals how pointless his film was. I wonder how he'd feel about that. He is saying, in a sense, that his own art has no meaning and isn't real. I think that's fascinating.
I think there's been a rape up there!
Well, yes and no. He is throwing us back into recognizing that the journey is available to anyone who dares to take it. It isn't going to be some kind of vision quest. It's going to be an examination of our lives and the society in which we live. If we like the movie or identified with the thief, our job now is to run our own critique of our society and to renounce its demands.
If the movie has inspired you to seek enlightenment, cut off the head of the alchemist, recognize that the experience of the movie is merely a stepping stone, and become enlightened.
