The tumor on the thief's neck.

I was wondering if anyone knows what the specific meaning behind the tumor on the back of the thief's neck is suppose to be.

reply

The tumour contains a purple jellyfish, like some kind of parasite. When the magician and the naked woman (who is adorned with medical symbols) remove it, the Thief no longer wants to fight, so, it's as if the jellyfish was preventing him from listening, was causing him rely on fighting as a way out of his problems. All part of the thief's growth and his diversion onto the righteous path.

Everything in this movie is a symbol, and their based on archetypes, they are supposed to have specific meanings. I don't think this is one of those 'there's no wrong interpretation movies'.

Incidentally, jellyfish also play a part in Jodorowshy's graphic novel The Incal, although they appear to be a much more bening symbol it that work.

It actually looked like a blue frog to me. In a previous scene, frogs were used to represent the Spanish conquistadors. When the frog was removed from the thief's neck he seemed to become more docile. I believe it represented his hostility being removed.

reply

it's an octopus

IT'S NOT A TUMOR!!
