Saw this at The Rio recently, so many don`t get it

So many idiots giggling and laughing at every other scene, yes this is a very stylish visual movie, but it`s NOT a comedy, many people had to switch seats to get away from these pockets of dummies.
"OMG look boobies! hehehe" "A naked man hahahah"
Jodo has a point to this movie, and so many just think it`s some meaningless drug movie, or semi porno comedy. Sigh.

reply

What's the point? Cause I don't understand a damn thing.

reply

Oh it`s a very simple point actually, we start with the thief, and he graduates to stealing gold from the alchemist (Jodo) along his attempt at theft, Jodo shows him and a group of other thieves (displayed as planets) the true search of higher elevation, invincibility and salvation.
In the end they reach that salvation which is realty..
Realty of what mistakes and crimes they were committing, but unaware of, then Jodo invites the audience (something miraculous, and has never been done during a movie before) to wake up to our own real realty...

Had the same experience recently with his new movie Endless Poetry. After 15 minutes I had to stand up and yell at them to stop laughing at everything.

There are moments of deliberate comedy in both movies, but most of the time they have a wondrous or melancholic tone.

I don't agree that his movies have a worthwhile point, cuz everything feels pointless to me. I just immerse myself in the emotions and atmosphere of Jodo's masterful filmmaking.

Haha nice I wish I stood up during the middle of this movie and yelled that, did you do that in the theater?
Well I think it has a clear point, I just explained to the former poster^

reply

Yeah in the theatre, I don't like people essentially heckling a movie I'm into. It was a small cinema, so there was no hiding from their giggling. I was with a group of ten or so, all trying to enjoy.

I understand the Holy Mountain point, but I'm not interested in spirituality, personal growth, or reality really.

Nice I need to do that next time, nothing worse than having your ticket price ruined by loud idiots.
At the theater I was in alcohol is allowed, I recently watched The Thing, Halloween, 2001, and Creep-show there, so many drunk idiots blabbing away, I`ll get up sit beside them and tell them be quiet, but it`s a big theater to yell out would be something else, but also a worthy effort $$$

reply

I wouldn't recommend yelling at drunk people on a regular basis, it will just lead to physical fights.

For the Endless Poetry screening it was appropriate for several reasons.
- half the crowd in the small theatre were my group
- my group had put several hundred dollars into the crowdfunding campaigns for the movie
- I had never seen a Jodo movie on the big screen
- it was the only screening of the movie
- Jodo is arguably the greatest and most influential filmmaker in the history of cinema, yet he has been denied the opportunity to make films for most of his life

Add all those together, and it seemed right to quiet the hecklers down. I think it was best for them anyway. After the movie everyone seemed to have enjoyed it, and there was no ill vibe in the lobby.
