The Perfect Daisy Buchanan is...

Naomi Watts. Hands down. Somebody needs to do a remake with her.

Movies I must see:
Australia
The Time Traveler's Wife
Bright Star

reply

No way! Naomi's too, well, skanky.

How do you like them apples?

reply

i think naomi would be good :)

reply

Natalie Portman.

Daisy is fragile, lovely and has a certain prettiness, no doubt...but more importantly, is entirely self-absorbed, selfish, spoiled and has a voice that sounds like Money. So, its not about looks alone. Who do we have that can play that?

Its is shocking, at least to myself, how well cast Mia Farrow was, in retrospect.

Not since Bobby Fosse has there ever been a film director like him, Roberto Marshall!

Will Carrie Mulligan of the 2012 The Great Gatsby surpass Mia Farrow of the 1974 film The Great Gatsby and Mira Sorvino of the 2000 TV-movie The Great Gatsby in the role of Daisy?

Will she be the best or the worst among the three actresses who have portrayed the same role?

Let's wait and see.

So far,Farrow holds the distinction of being the WORST DAISY.

If this were to be remade, yet again, the perfect Daisy at present would be Kirsten Dunst---she has this shimmery, sunshine exterior that could easily mislead and distort the memory of someone like Gatsby; and yet, there is an underlying darkness and depth there, a place that could either speak of vulnerability or cunning manipulation, depending upon what a role calls for (this observation is regarding acting capabilities--not maligning of personal character). The role of "Daisy" calls for both.

reply

i think keira knightley would be good or tellulah riley

reply

Rachel McAdams would be the perfect Daisy Buchanan!!!!!Hands down!!!!

reply

they are all way to old, if Im not mistaken Daisy is supposed to be like 23 Naomi Watts is probably like forty or so.

reply

You are correct. Daisy and Jordan are in their very early 20s. Nick and Jay are in their late 20s.

And Daisy isn't even necessarily blonde. She is described at least two times as having dark hair in the book and once as possibly "yellow". He contradicts himself often.

reply

the perfect Daisy is, in fact, Mia Farrow!

reply

Mia Farrow was the perfect Daisy.

I barely get through the 74 version because of Mia Farrow's shrill voice and overacting. I wasn't sure who but after reading this thread think Kirsten Dunst is a good choice. She was a great Marion Davies in The Cat's Meow.

You must be here to fix the cable

I agree. I think Kirsten Dunst was really good in The Virgin Suicides and Marie Antoinette, which is sort of where that poster was going with the shimmery concealing depth and darkness aspect of Daisy. It makes perfect sense now that it's been brought up.

I will be your Sherpa up the mountain of gayness.
