Am I The Only One Who Didnt Like Gatsby?

I read the book this year in my American Literature class at school and thought it was a very good book. But what I noticed in my class is that a lot of people rooted for Gatsby and some said that "How can Daisy not want a great guy like Gatsby?". Sure, Daisy was no angel, but neither was Gatsby IMO. I found him to be (Both in the book and film) a delusional, dishonest creep. Anyone else think the same way I do about the character?

I don't agree. To me though the only likable people in the book was Nick and Gatsby. Tom's a racist jerk. Daisy is a shrew. I did sort of like Mr. Wilson and was really sad for his character. Not really my favorite book either. Kind of wish I could've read First Blood by David Morell in school instead of books like Gatsby.

Yes, I thought Gatsby was a delusional creep, too. He seemed to want to possess Daisy in order to re-create some sort of better, happier time. He didn't seem to want to face the fact that life had moved on and she had a child (although it seemed like she didn't really realize she had a child either). Nick seemed to be the only one of the main characters with any sense, but then he was narrating and I'm sure he downplayed his own faults.

I would agree with you. I am pretty sure we are meant to question everyone's character and choices in this story.

Hummm Daisy was such a superficial air head, anyone with the most money is who got her attention. She had to be in the limelight or she was moving on to the next guy. She and her hubby deserved each other....Gatsby was everything you said and more. I love it when folks talk about how out of control our world is today and then you get a chance to see just how it was in the earlier part of the nineteenth century.... Talk about out of control generation.

Yup, I think you might just be.
