Netflix

How come Netflix doesn't offer movies like this when they're released, or at least soon after? It seems that almost every time one of these long-awaited DVD releases of older films comes around that Netflix never offers them. There must be some sort of contract between Turner Entertainment and the studios for releases like Freebie & The Bean. (same story for 2 other 70's films I've been waiting for: Carny and Rolling Thunder)

The reason netflix doesn't have this is because it's an amazon exclusive. Which is only sold on amazon through burn on demand, which basically they burn the film to a dvd-r and make you over pay for it. I don't recommend buying burn on demand because they are usually poor quality and have NO special features. So unless your really want the movie, don't buy it through burn on demand!

Thanks for the insight Miles. Indeed, I have never once bought one of these overpriced "new release of an old long awaited film" DVDs because I have always doubted their quality. It's also interesting to note that Netflix dropped their "on demand" viewing option of Rolling Thunder right around when that DVD came out, presumably also under the same Amazon arrangement as Freebie and the Bean. The question is whether we're going to see any other DVD release at all. Maybe with the release of a blue ray disc we'll get something good, and it will be available for rent. I've been dying for 3 films for a long while: Rolling Thunder, Freebie and the Bean, and Carny (1980), all of which seem to have gotten the same Amazon treatment.

For a Warner Archive release, the quality is really good, especially since it's not Blu Ray.
