I Really think this was the weakest frankenstein movie with peter in it.
By 1974 peter looked too old for the role plus the movie brought nothing new to the franchise as it was repeating the earlier F Movies again and again.

My top 6 frankenstein movies with peter:

1) THE CURSE..
2) THE REVENGE...
3) CREATED WOMAN...
4) THE EVIL...
5) MUST BE DESTROYED...
6) MONSTER FROM HELL...

What this film is...was not so much about the the experiments but the Baron himself it was a fitting end showing that he will never stop....and it also shows how his own obsession with this on experiments is wearing him down. The fact he looks more tired in this one give it more depth because it shows the effects his years of failures and disapointments. I thought it was a very fitting end...and I loved how it took a darker and more morbid take on things.

Monster from Hell is my favourite out of Hammer's entire Frankenstein series followed closely by Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed.I love the atmosphere and gore and, of course, Peter Cushing's performance in FATMFH.

The reason Peter looked physically tired and gaunt was because he'd just lost his dear wife.

Also, this movie was filmed in late '71/early '72 although release date was actually 1974.

I had to skip Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed and The Horror of Frankenstein because I couldn't get access to a copy of either of them, but I have seen the first four and this one and out of the ones I have seen, I would agree that this is my least favorite. It wasn't a bad movie of course, it was just the least satisfying of the series that I have seen.

Agreed. I still like it and all, but its definitely the weak link in the chain. Most give Evil of Frankenstein a hard time and call it the weakest, but it was far more satisfying and entertaining than this one was (plus it had a kick ass ending).

My list in order of personal preference:

1. The Curse of Frankenstein
2. Evil of Frankenstein
3. Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed
4. Revenge of Frankenstein
5. Frankenstein Created Woman
6. Frankenstein and the Monster From Hell
