What a fun little movie...

I've been getting into 1970's "car chase" movies and some of them are REALLY enjoyable. This is one of the better ones I've seen. Its nowehere near the quality of Two-Lane Blacktop or Vanishing Point, but its still very entertaining.

The lack of political correctness is one reason some of these movies are so entertaining (and sometimes shocking) today. As historical artifacts, they are fascinating to watch.

But they're also simply great entertainment, and the fact that this film is a comedy further distinguishes it from the better, but more serious, car chase films of the period. Its still exciting though, and the real treat is that everything we see is REAL. Those are real cars flying across bridges and being crushed by telephone poles...no CGI in sight!

I strongly recommend checking this film out with the two films mentioned above (if you can find Two-Lane Blacktop, that is), as well as H.B. Halicki's ORIGINAL Gone in 60 Seconds...not the terrible remake.

I have a feeling I'm in the minority here, but I really liked Susan George as Mary. I thought she was endearing and lovable, especially when she constantly runs along behind the guys.

The ending pissed me off. Its surprising, sure, but well...see for yourself, I'm not spoiling it!

Your'e definitely not alone here. I'm a huge fan of the car chase and car movies from the era.

I'm with you totally on the actual stunts, with actual cars and actual drivers. No CGI. That's just what makes these great movies.

H.B. Halicki was the greatest though, he did it all and made the greatest car chase movie ever.

Forget it....
I always enjoyed this too. I saw it for the first time at the theater when it came out, with my friends in junior high. I love Peter Fonda. He seems to have made a number of chase movies. He was in "Race With The Devil." Another was "High Ballin."
Something else that I noticed too, is that several of the films end with fire... ""Easy Rider" "Diryt Mary Crazy Larry" "Race With The Devil"....
