Vic Morrow foretells his own death

I'm astonished that no one has picked up of this bit of trivia. In one scene during this movie his character was supposed to fly a helicopter. He says to the other characters in the scene, ""I’m not getting up in the helicopter...I have a premonition that I’m going to get killed in a helicopter crash." A few years later he was in fact killed in a helicopter crash on the set of Twilight Zone. Freaky stuff.

"I'd call the French scum bags but that would be a disservice to bags filled with scum."

reply

No such scene.

However, Morrow did say something along those lines to his manager during filming of Twilight Zone. He voiced concern that safety procedures were not being followed, which proved fatally true. Several books on the Twilight Zone crash are out there....check them out. One of them is called 'Special Effects'.

reply

Yeah, the reference to that line from Morrow in DMCL, was supposedly said by him during filming (not in the actual movie). I tend to think this is an "Urban Legend" made up by someone after the "Twilight Zone" crash, but one never knows.

He should have felt pretty safe with James Gavin (the helicopter pilot) at the controls. That guy works on EVERY movie with a helicopter in it. He's Hollywood's premiere chopper pilot.

reply

but Gavin didnt fly the one in ZONE unfortunatly...

Morrow was a very underrated actor...

“So if Mother’s Earth, who impregnated her?”

VIC MORROW appearance in the film was one of the finest in his carreer and He will allways be remembered in my prayers... "may you rest in peace"

reply

...or peaces

Where Science Meets Keith Chegwin...

reply

Wow your prayers must be pretty gerthy if you're dropping Vic Morrow up in there. I assume you're either related to him or completely out of your mind and infinitely bored. I jest of course. He was a great actor... always interesting to watch, a real guy on film if there ever was one.

Him flying in a heli in this movie was definitely kinda strange though. I said the same thing to my wife, when he says something about getting a helicopter, I paid attention to see if he said or did anything creepily foretelling... nothing really.

I love the scene in the groves when he comes around the corner in the helicopter with the front of the chopper tilted forward with the blade inches off the road with the powerlines just a few feet away.Awesome stunt !

reply

But he wasn't up in a helicopter in TZ, but on the ground. However it was a helicopter crash that cut off his head.

reply

I remember they showed it on TV many years ago.. was very dark and hard to see! was running thru water carrying 2 children

reply

After the "Twilight Zone " tragedy, I`ve seen this movie a number of times, and each time I see it, I always think of the things I`ve read about him having a fear of dieing in a helicopter. that always gives me the chills. Is`nt it strange?

reply

He later appeared in BAD CATS,a short lived ABC TV series. In the opener,he flew in a helicopter to the scene of a hearse rollover.Isnt that foretelling....a helicopter and a hearse (with casket within).

reply

Although I don't think he actually mentioned his fear of helicopters in the movie itself, the story about his being afraid of being killed by a helicopter is not an urban myth, but fact. It took a lot from the crew and director to get him into that helicopter in DMCL.

reply

There is no such line, however there is scene where he is standing in the middle of the intersection waiting for the helicopter to pick him up.

Now that is eerie.

reply

It is.

I find it depressing as well. :(

As crazy as it may sound I have a thing for him,so the helicopter thing is a bummer for me.

I'm a new Vic Morrow fan :)

I was able to catch DMCL on Encore this morning. He really was a stand out in this movie. I was really cool to see him in action. Couldn't help but feel he was so right for this part based on his looks. He just looked the part of a good ol boy BUT the New Yorker in him did peak out a few times under the southern accent. I noticed this when he says "car" it came out "cahh". Same with Jackie Gleason in Smokey and The Bandit.

He's a sexy man. I'd hit it,especially in this movie. ;)

I would have gone up in the helicopter with him and held on TIGHT.
