My top end is unlimited!

No car has an "unlimited" top-end speed! "Unlimited" top-end speed would indicate the car would never stop gaining speed.

It is a pretty stupid line... although the "top end" on a 440-powered 1972 Dodge Polara police car would be about 140 MPH. If it were souped up (as is stated in the film), maybe 150 - 155. The 1969 Dodge Polara CHP car would top out at 151 bone stock.

Well that's what the mechanic who built the motor up told him, and not being the brightest bulb on the string, he believed it. :D

I thought he was talking about the top end of the engine (cam, valves, etc.) and having unlimited but within reason RPM.

That'd be pretty scary in an early 70s mopar.

an UNLIMITED top end means that the motor can go faster than what the car can handle!

Any Dodge, Ford interceptor back in the day floated at 140+ miles per hour.. TRUST ME I KNOW!!!
The dodges were capable of 150 MPH and the fords 155 (as per gear ratio)

But these speeds were scary in thes 2 ton beasts as they floated..... with a lil bit of modding they were easily Top end unlimited cars!

That line always bugged me too... I had a 70 R/T Challenger that would top out it's 383 but those were torsion bar suspension cars and didn't float as bad as the boats did but it still was nose heavy in the corners with that cast iron big block in it. There is no such thing as "unlimited"... I loved that "Limelight" Charger though!

It's an exaggeration, plain and simple.

I thought it was a great scene, and the 2 actors played it perfectly.

Hank was esp memorable.
