I watched this film for the first time the other night, oddly compelling little film, but it was chewed up in places, and a couple of the places were particularly unfortunate. Can anyone fill me in on the little bits I missed that I think might have been fairly important?

a.) The main one this, JUST before the ball. The mayor is sitting on the bed with Arthur and grabs him in quite a threatening manner. What does he say to Arthur?

b.) Also, just after Arthur has repeatedly reversed into one of the cars to kill the driver, he is standing outside the car looking at his hands and the mayor pats him on the back. I missed the rest of the scene, anything interesting?

Answers below:

a) Arthur told the mayor he didn't want to go to the ball because he had a lot on his mind. He was most likely trying to digest all that had happened with the reverend. The mayor told him to put on his costume because he was going to the ball.

b) Arthur realized that he could drive. He went to his car and drove out of Paris.

Thanks for the reply, that helps a bit, but really I was after what exactly was said. I know in the first one the mayor starts with "NO-ONE" and then it cut after that, it sounded pretty threatening.

Also, did Arthur or the mayor actually say anything at all in the second part I was talking about? I only missed about 5-10 seconds each time, and I'm not sure anything was said in b at all...

The line after he kills the guy by repeatedly smashing the car into him is a comedy highlight of the film imo. You think he's going to say something lame (or nothing) and he's looking at his hands as if he has blood on them and feeling bad after killing a third person with a car. Then he looks up and exclaims "I can drive!", lol. Which leads to him driving away from the wrecked town.

The bit where they're about to go to the ball-thing he says "Get this into your head - No-one leaves Paris!", or words to that effect.
