Criterion DVD manufacturer help!!

Does anyone have a Criterion edition of this movie that they bought from a retailer (BORDERS,BARNES & NOBLE,etc)or amazon that has white disc art and the logo for RITEK Global Media CA on the playside? I am trying to make sure mine is not a bootleg. Please let me know. THANKS!

How much did you pay for it? The Criterion edition of BLOOD FOR DRACULA is out of print, as I'm sure you know; so it would be very unlikely that a copy could be purchased retail, at least recently.

Additionally, I've never seen a retail DVD highlight its media's manufacturer's logo anywhere. Especially not Criterion.

I don't have this edition, but it seems you've gotten a Hong Kong bootleg -- do a Google search, you'll see this is happening (especially with Ritek media).

i got it off ebay, and the seller was very good with communication and had a perfect feedback score. he told me he got it from borders right when it went out of print in 2005. when i became concerned about the logo issue, he responded and strongly reassured me that he bought it retail and he didn't rip me off.the dvds even included their DIRECTOR APPROVED stickers and their original seals on the inside of the case. i asked some of the forum members at criteriondvd.com and a few people have said they have the same logo and they purchased theirs from borders. i asked criterion about a week ago and nobody has answered. i dont know what the hell to think!! it really makes me mad.

Bottomline, though... If it's good quality and has all the extras - who cares if it's a bootleg? I don't. If a film is out of print and I can get it - good quality - anywhere, then what the hey!

Well said, thefabslv -- I share your sentiments.

The only caveats obviously would be the bait and switch (one usually pays top dollar for Criterion, and expects better than good quality [I've never seen a bootleg DVD-9, and therefore I assume bootleggers use DVDR-5 media] given by a bootleg) and the price. $15.00 to superhappyfun.com's DVDRs seem just right to me.

Yep... I had the opportunity to get the Criterion versions of "Blood for Dracula" and "Flesh for Frankenstein" on eBay, but didn't get up at 3 a.m. this morning to check my bid and somebody got them for a buck more than my last bid (they got the pair for $76).

HOWEVER! Image Entertainment apparently did a high-quality, uncensored transfer(including extras) of both films in September 2005 and they're carried at Tower Records. I just went online and ordered both for $36.61 total, including shipping. Kinda glad now that I was outbid! ;-)

The quality on the ones I bought from Tower is great... No complaints. :-)

I first rented the criterion blood for dracula and the quality wasnt great. however i bought the image version and its quality is much better than the criterion.

I'd read the same thing about the Criterion version somewhere else, so it really was great to have such good quality at a cheaper price.
