Love The Movie Until The Ending. What Was The Point? (SPOILERS)

Blazing Saddles is a classic. Struck down by the ending:

About seventy five percent is wonderful comedy. However, what was the point of near the end of the movie with going to that sound-set where they are doing "The French Mistake" number? They don't have Hollywood sets in the Old West.

Than you had mixtures of the main characters from the movie blending in with the slapstick comedy on the set. It was almost like watching a different movie.

The film should have ended with the saving of the town. What do you think?

It was great. Probably one of the best endings of a movie ever. It totally shows Brooks' genius in doing comedy which isn't just slap-stick, but very intelligent.

When I first saw BS (first run, theater), I did not like the ending. I'm still not crazy about it. However, after many viewings I think that there just wasn't ANY way to end the movie. The very fact that Brooks and co. came up with those minutes of absurdity is brilliant in itself.

They don't have Hollywood sets in the Old West.

They also didn't have railway laborers singing Cole Porter, or sheriffs with Gucci saddle bags, or Count Basie & his orchestra playing "April in Paris" on the prairie, or toll gates for cowboys, or Cadillacs zooming off into the sunset.

Right from the opening scene, "Blazing Saddles" made it clear it wasn't playing by the rules or following a set pattern; this was comedy at its most anarchic, just like the Marx Brothers at their "Duck Soup" best. I think the sequences at Warner Brothers Studios and Grauman's Chinese Theater were brilliant and very much in keeping with the free-spirited, anything-goes tone of the film.

Any writer, director, or actor can poke a little hole in the fourth wall. It takes an entire crew of creative movie makers to completely erase the wall and fly by the seat of the pants.

The best diplomat I know is a fully charged phaser bank.

The whole movie is absurd parody -- that scene is just more absurd!
